An Inverness mum and daughter have posted their first online music video after boredom struck during life in lockdown.

Lucy MacLeay (26) and daughter Nova Aurora Starkey, aged three-and-a-half, recorded a version of McFly's Obviously (She is out of my League) with lyrics to suit the coronavirus time.

Lucy and Nova, from Hilton, told their story as part of a series of Highland News and Media articles recording living history during the global pandemic.

Lucy, who is currently furloughed from her job as a travel agent at SJ Travel Centre, is at home with daughter Nova, and flatmate Jenna Joy who is also furloughed from her job at the Tooth and Claw bar in Inverness city centre.

Former Inverness Royal Academy pupil Lucy said: "We have been trying to keep busy, and we have been doing a lot of craft activities and singing songs. And we have painted the front window in the colour of a rainbow and one of our radiators is now pink.

"But there is not much to do. Nova is missing her friends from Play Pen nursery. She is always asking to see her friends.

"Nova is speaking to people every day on Skype or Facetime. She speaks to her grannies and to Beth, who she thinks of as like her own auntie. Nova loves Facetime. It is keeping her quite busy."

Lucy continued: "It has been very boring and we have been trying to figure out things to do – so over a matter of five minutes I wrote down some lyrics to McFly's original song and we set about recording it.

"The lyrics are about not knowing when the lockdown is going to end, thanking everyone at the NHS who are doing a wonderful job."

Lucy sings and plays the guitar, while Nova accompanies her on her child's piano and striking a few dance moves.

"I am an amateur musician," Lucy said: "But Nova can pick up and play along with lots of musical instruments that we have around the house."

Speaking about how life is generally at the moment Lucy said: "It is difficult but it is really lovely to have lots of time at home with Nova. We are going for walks and keeping ourselves busy.

"We are quite lucky here in the Highlands, and it feels like we have got it much easier than many other parts of the country."
