Runners still have time to grab themselves a place on the start line at the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running.

The event, which includes a 10K and a 5K as well as the headline marathon distance, takes place on October 2.

Thousands of people are expected to don their running shoes for the event, which attracts participants from around the world.

People can still sign up for the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K – as well as the 10K Corporate Challenge – at this year's 20th running of the event, with registration open until midnight on Monday, September 26.

Keen long-distance runners can also sign up for the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, with places still available for club and international runners, members of Scottish Athletics, or those raising funds for charity.

Race director Malcolm Sutherland said: “As we approach the 20th Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running, we can feel excitement rippling through the running community.

“Now more than ever, we are aware of the benefits of getting outside and ensuring we’re not cooped up indoors for too long. What better way to do that than by traversing some of the most challenging and beautiful roads there are?”

The point-to-point marathon starts near Whitebridge, on the moors high above the loch, and makes its way alongside the water for 26.2 miles to finish in the Highland capital, Inverness.

Spectators are encouraged to gather at the finish line at Bught Park where there is also the Wee Nessie race for under-5s.

Meanwhile, organisers are also looking for more volunteers to help the event run smoothly on the day. People are needed to marshal positions in and around Inverness for either the morning or the afternoon on Sunday, October 2.

Each volunteer will receive a goody bag, hat and donation to the charity or fundraising group of their choice.

Volunteers are asked to email volunteers@caledonianconcepts.co.uk and registration for the runners is at www.lochnessmarathon.com
