A group of 10 Inverness runners completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon in aid of a Highland charity.

They were sponsored by city firm Murray Travel, whose coverage of flights and accommodation meant every penny raised by the participants at the event on Sunday went to Highland Hospice.

Wendy Morgan, communications officer at the hospice, took part along with the travel firm’s Carla Murdoch and eight others.

Collectively they have raised around £7000 so far, with more donations expected.

“We had a fantastic experience participating in this event,” she said.

“Our group was made up of runners of varying abilities and experience, but everyone got on so well and supported each other.

“The event is incredibly well run with a great atmosphere created by cheer stations along the way.

“A huge thanks to Murray Travel for sponsoring our participation. This is so greatly appreciated and a fantastic contribution to the hospice.

“Well done to everyone who participated in a fantastic run and even better fundraising.”

It was Wendy’s second half marathon though she said she actually found it tougher than the first.

“The finish line was a very welcome sight and I couldn’t move my legs after crossing it!” she said.

Andrew Leaver, the head of fundraising and development at Highland Hospice, said: “All of us here at the hospice are immensely proud of Wendy and the whole team who ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise funds for hospice care in the Highlands.

“Wendy works so hard for the organisation, balancing her responsibilities at work with three growing boys at home.

“I just don’t know how she finds the time to fundraise and run a half marathon – a truly extraordinary achievement from a fabulous person.

“Thank you to Wendy and all our London Landmarks runners as well as Murray Travel for supporting them to get to London.”
