HUNDREDS of cyclists participated in an impromptu bike ride organised by seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

The 39-year-old cyclist, who is the founder and chairman of the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research and support after battling testicular cancer, organised the gathering in Dornoch via social networking website Twitter.

He had tweeted last week that he was in Inverness and posted the open invitation online on Saturday.

A similar event was organised by the cyclist in Paisley two years ago.
