Scottish Labour candidate for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, John Erskine, has backed the Inverness Courier's Make It Safe campaign calling for the upgrading of the vital A82 road.

Mr Erskine has signed the campaigns petition to the Scottish Parliament asking the Scottish Government to take action and is encouraging others to do so ahead of the January 5 deadline.

Mr Erskine said: "Kate Forbes and the SNP Government must commit to the upgrading of the A82.

"It might be ‘The Forgotten Road’ to Ministers in Edinburgh but it is one of the top concerns for many people locally.

"Having spoken to hundreds of people across the constituency over recent weeks since being selected as Labour's local candidate, it is clear to me that many people felt let down by the lack of action and are demanding improvements now.

"Progress has been at a snail's pace and after 16 years the SNP have failed to take the necessary action on this vital stretch of road, it can’t be allowed to drag on any longer.

"I’m backing the Inverness Courier’s A82:Make It Safe campaign and encouraging others to do the same by signing the petition to the Scottish Parliament."
