POLICE who wanted to speak to a 33-year-old Inverness man about a possible outstanding arrest warrant found that he had been carrying a knife.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard on Friday that James Hampton, who was described as an Inverness prisoner, had been seen outside his home in Glendoe Terrace on March 31 this year.

But he ran off when approached by officers and dropped a knife as he made his escape. He later told police: “Boys are going to get me. I had it to protect myself.”

Hampton, who is currently serving a six month jail sentence, imposed last week for failing to complete a community payback order, was jailed for an additional 58 weeks.

He admitted illegal possession of a knife.
