A 21-year-old shop assistant will be sentenced next month after police found a lock-knife in his possession when officers stopped his car for a drugs search.

Struan Macdonald, of Newton Park, Kirkhill appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted having the knife in his trousers without reasonable excuse in Mackay Road, Inverness on April 20, 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing an ecstasy tablet.

Sentence was deferred for a background report until November 15 before Sheriff Robert Frazer.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell told the court: “These offences were over two-and-a-half years ago and he has not come to the attention of the police since.

“He has sorted himself out. He had been camping with friends and forgot to remove the knife.”
