PICTURES: Children at Inverness Library got to play and sing with some very special visitors all the way from the high seas last week

Pirate John and First Mate Bookbug came to read stories and play games with the children as part of the library’s regular free Bookbug sessions which combine singing and playing along, as well as plenty of laughs and story telling.

Network librarian Asuka McKenna said the session had gone down very well with the library’s youngest users and their parents.

“Everyone had a great morning with Captain John – better known as our library assistant Andrew – at our pirate themed Bookbug session,” she said. “There were 11 adults and 15 children taking part and we decorated the children’s area with colourful pictures of pirate ships, created by our library assistants Heather, Andrew and Carolina.

“We managed to build a boat from cushions and laid the sparkly blue lycra we have on the stage floor to make it look like water. With our eye patch and parrot, everyone sang songs and sea shanties such as What Shall we do with the Grumpy Pirate?”
