Mark McDade admitted engaging in a course of conduct that caused his former partner fear and alarm when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Depute fiscal Alex Swain told the court the couple separated in May and McDade's ex blocked him from contacting her on her phone on June 7, but he continued to contact her by email.

McDade (26) of Wyvis Place, Inverness, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly sending texts to his ex and her mother, sending her emails and, in separate incidents, shouting and swearing at her in Culduthel Road and High Street, Inverness.

He also pleaded guilty to attempting to knock a mobile phone from her hand and, at an address in Kilmuir Road, Inverness, striking a window and shouting and swearing.

His offending took place between May 2 and June 17.

Ms Swain said that on June 7 the pair had been together with mutual friends but when they became separated from the group McDade began shouting and swearing at his ex and tried to grab her phone from her.

On June 16 the woman was on a night out with friends when McDade saw her in the High Street and began shouting abuse.

The following day she had been dropped off with friends at an address in Kilmuir Road and McDade attended, shouting for her to come out and speak to him.

Solicitor Natalie Paterson said the couple had been together for three years and McDade initially struggled with the break-up, but now understood the relationship was over.

Sheriff Fleetwood fined the first offender £810 and imposed a three-year non-harassment order.
