A HILARIOUS mix up between a tattie scone and an actual scone in a Highland café has led to an internet storm.

Kieran McCormick (20) a student at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Inverness posted a picture of his breakfast in a "Highland" café after a language barrier mixed up the two very different items.

After ordering a breakfast roll for his dad, Kieran ordered a "tottie scone on a roll" for himself.

But when his order came to the table on Monday morning, he was given a sausage stack on a scone.

Ever a gentleman, Kieran told the Inverness Courier that he didn't want to name and shame the Highland café, as there may have been a miscommunication between him and the waitress.

Kieran, a golf student, said he was glad he could break the political tension in the country by posting a picture of a scone with a sausage in it.

Using the twitter handle @kieranmccormic3, he said: "Asked for a roll and tattie scone and they have gave us sausage in a scone."

The tweet has been liked almost 6000 times and shared more than 400 times.
