Highland councillor Bet McAllister is relieved that a pledge has been made for work to be carried out on a dangerous Inverness building.

The Inverness Central ward member welcomed Highland Council's vow to carry out repairs to the property in Pumpgate Street/Grant Street which was hit by a car in January 2021.

“I’ve been pressing for this for some time and it’s a relief that action can now be taken before the deteriorating scaffolding damages the wall beyond repair,” she said.

“Council officials have done their best to persuade the owner who is abroad to take responsibility, as the other two owners have, to allow the building to be restored.

“Now, expert advice on the state of deterioration has allowed Highland Council the power to take action and retrieve its costs from the owner involved.

“The sooner this road is open to the public once more, the better it will be for all concerned. Local people have been fed up waiting for so long – but now things are heading in the right direction.”
