Staff at an Inverness shop were concerned when a man entered the premises.

When the counter assistants at the Montague Row Spar shop challenged Graeme King (46) for not observing social distancing rules, he made a sarcastic comment before throwing items at the check-out.

Police were called and King, of Duncraig Street, Inverness was charged with threatening or abusive behaviour by entering the premises while other customers were present. He also refused to leave or adhere to the two-metre rule and then threw groceries and a mobile phone at the counter.

King, who was not present, admitted the April 28 offence through his lawyer Rory Gowans at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The solicitor said: “He was intoxicated. He had a loss of control and composure.”

King was ordered to carry out 70 hours of unpaid community work.
