'It looks like a playground' jibe as mystery footprints appear in Inverness city centre

Mystery surrounds the appearance of a series of colourful footprints that have been placed on streets in Inverness city centre.

Green and yellow footprints and pawprints appear to lead people toward the Victorian Market.

Some businesses are upset about it, with them claiming there was no warning or explanation they would be placed outside their premises.

One business leader said: "They have come out of nowhere and it looks like a playground. I have no idea what they are all about or why they are here. People are confused and have been asking us and we just don't know what to tell anyone."

Another said: "Words fail me. If the [Highland] council is behind this then they really need to learn to communicate with businesses better."

It is unclear who placed the footprints there and why.

Highland Council have been invited to comment.
