Electronics giant Fujitsu is making the fund-raising appeal for a new Raigmore Hospital children's ward its nominated charity for the year.

The company which has 150 staff based in the Highlands hopes to make a long-term commitment and is also urging other firms across the region to get involved.

The appeal to raise £1 million has been launched by the ARCHIE Foundation, a charity which works to make a difference to sick children and their families across the north of Scotland, and is supported by The Inverness Courier. The aim is to transform the department into a child-centred and family-friendly environment.

The initiative has been applauded by Fujitsu account director, Muhunda Satchithananda, who is based in Inverness.

"This is, of course, a fantastic project and the campaign being led by The Inverness Courier to raise awareness of it is to be commended," he said.

"We believe there are a number of ways in which we can join with the Courier to support the project and will be meeting with the ARCHIE Foundation to find out how we can help.

"We are very hopeful we can make a significant positive impact on the project and will be committing resources to that effect for at least the next year."

The company, which has 500 employees in Scotland, also intends to publicise the appeal to its customers and other companies across the country.
