MONTHS of renovation work is to begin at an Inverness beauty spot.

Contractors are expected to spend eight months improving the Ness Islands' paths, bridges, trees and banks.

But Highland Council has stressed that three-quarters of that time will be mostly spent on lighter tree works and is not expected to "affect the public too much".

Localised sections are expected to be cordoned off during this, but access to the islands will remain open.

Work on improvements to the bridges will prevent access on occasion. The public are being urged to read signs at the entrances to the islands during the work to check if there are any closures.

"Works will be weather and river-level dependent and forewarning of closures will not be possible. Check the signs each time," said a council spokeswoman.

"Highland Council apologises for any inconvenience for the works which are to protect and prolong the islands as a popular area for people to enjoy and benefit for years to come."
