It comes after the site's previous male swan died last month after injuring his wing, leaving his partner without a mate.

A spokesman for Inverness College UHI said: “Is love in the air for our lonely heart swan on Valentine’s Day?

“A new male arrived at Inverness Campus this week and after a rocky start it looks like the pair have been indulging in a bit of courtship.

“Will we see cygnets this spring?!”

Mute swans are monogamous and mate for life.
