A domestic abuse investigation of a man for violence against two women led to the discovery of more victims.

Callum Brown (27) appeared before Sheriff Sara Matheson at Inverness Sheriff Court.

He admitted 13 charges relating to offences against five women between February 17, 2014 and July 2021.

Sentence on Brown, described as an Inverness prisoner, was deferred until March 11 for a background report and assessment for participation in domestic abuser rehabilitation.

Fiscal depute David Barclay said Brown’s offending took place in Ullapool and Inverness.

The first incidents involved a woman between January 2014 and October 2015. He pushed her against a door frame, cutting her eye and leaving her with a permanent scar.

On another occasion he burned her with a cigarette and punched and kicked her on the body.

A third charge involved Brown becoming angry when she would not visit one of his family members.

“He grabbed her by the neck, lashed out at her, striking her to the face resulting in bruising,” Mr Barclay said.

She ended the relationship but Brown made repeated attempts to contact her through social media and phone calls and once entered her home.

The second victim was pregnant when he attempted to hit her with a crutch.

He also twice butted her on the head, punched her, grabbed her by the neck and threw items at her on repeated occasions between July 2017 and April 2019.

Despite a non-harassment order being imposed in July 2019 he repeatedly contacted her by phone and on social media.

Three other victims came to light in Inverness after one complained to the police about Brown’s behaviour.

On one occasion he grabbed one woman by the neck.

A second and third woman were subjected to regular verbal abuse with the third woman also grabbed by the neck and punched.

Solicitor Marc Dickson said Brown had mental health issues and had been given helpful medication whilst on remand.

“Alcohol and drug abuse also played a role in some of the offences. But he is only 27 and there is time for redemption,” he said.
