An investigation into the death of an 86-year-old man in the Highlands is ongoing.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) was instructed by Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to investigate the death of John Winton McNab eight months ago.

Police Scotland also referred the circumstances to the PIRC.

Mr McNab was the driver of a grey Mercedes B which was discovered having been involved in a crash on the A887 at Invermoriston at around 1.20pm on September 18, 2022.

He was last seen on September 13.

A spokeswoman for the PIRC said: "Our final report was issued to COPFS on March 22. Our findings and report are confidential and we are unable to provide any further detail.”

A spokesperson for the COPFS said: "The Procurator Fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a 86-year-old man.

"The investigation into the death is ongoing and the family will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments."
