An Inverness woman will be vying for a place in the Miss Great Britain grand final this Sunday.

Eilidh Macleod (25) will be competing in the final for Miss Great Britain Glasgow, a regional contest where she is up against nine other contenders.

The 25-year-old, who moved to Livingston in January, has done some modelling as a hobby but this is the first time she has entered a pageant.

“I thought I’d give it a go,” she said. “Why not?”

The final includes walking the catwalk and doing public appearances such as an interview about her chosen charity – the Mental Health Foundation. She raised money for the foundation by getting sponsored by her friends and family to complete the EMF (Edinburgh Marathon Festival) 5K.

Eilidh chose this charity because she feels strongly that mental health should be a more widely spoken about issue, especially in politics. After doing some research, she found out that the Mental Health Foundation has a strong political influence on the laws surrounding mental health. They advocate “for a preventative approach to mental health problems” in national and local governments.

“I want society to be more accepting of people with mental health issues,” she said. “I’m doing this to say just be yourself.”

Eilidh added: “I’m a little bit nervous for this weekend but mainly excited. I’m looking forward to meeting new people.”
