The Inverness city centre attraction has been recreated in wool ahead of Inverness's annual knitting festival.

People from all over the world are expected to arrive in the Highland capital next week ahead of the festival which runs from October 17-20.

Each year, the Bramley Knitters have constructed an item to go on display. Following on from meeting Inverness Provost Helen Carmichael and having a tour of the town house last year, the group were inspired to make it their latest project.

The building’s delicate stonework and Victorian Gothic themes are a splendid sight in knitted form and is the culmination of a year’s work by the 12-member group.

The 3D model, which includes lighting, arrived this week and was given to festival organisers in exchange for a contribution towards postage costs.

It is on display alongside other knitted masterpieces such as a knitted castle, bike, trolley and suitcase in the Victorian Market in Inverness until Tuesday before they are taken to Inverness Leisure, which is hosting the festival.

Provost Carmichael said: “Last year the centre-piece for the festival was an eye-catching knitted replica of Inverness Castle, which was very well received by festival-goers and the public, and has inspired the knitters to turn their talents to tackling a knitted town house.

“Knit Fest brings so much creativity from far and wide and I am sure the 2019 festival is going to be a great success.”

Victorian Market manager Jo Murray said it was been a pleasure to host these fabulous knitted objects – many of them over the summer.

Festival director Cecilia Grigor said: “With people arriving from all over the world, it is great to have the local support for the event.

“Having places like the market showcasing our festival year round allows us to capture tourists as they pass through and we are even seeing people book tickets on the back of finding out about the festival from walking past the knitted display.”

The replica town house could be put on display in the market after the festival.
