Inverness tees up 'enhancements' for Scottish Open

A FLORAL three-dimensional model of a golfer will be placed outside Inverness Town House as part of the city’s activities during the Scottish Open next month.

The statue will be one of several floral displays which will be installed prior to the four-day event which starts at Castle Stuart on 7th July.

A "Welcome to Inverness" sign will be made from flowers at the Raigmore Interchange roundabout, while flower beds will be placed near Inverness Castle and Old High Church.

The city events and promotions budget of the Common Good Fund will pay for what Highland Council’s Inverness city manager David Haas describes as enhancements.

"The importance of ensuring that visitors are provided with a pleasing and lasting first impression was recognised at an early stage," states Mr Haas, in a report to be discussed by Inverness councillors on Monday.

Outdoor entertainment will be staged at Falcon Square, Inverness Castle, Church Street and the High Street each evening from 6th to 9th July.

Officials at Inverness Business Improvement District (BID) and the Eastgate Shopping Centre have also made arrangements for a large screen in Falcon Square for the weekend of the golf tournament.

A roads and transport sub-group is using a computer programme to examine the best traffic management plan for the event.

Additional information at the site will be provided to encourage spectators to stagger their departure times. Visitors will be urged to park away from the course and a shuttle bus service will run from Inverness bus station.
