An 18-year-old punched another teenager on the head, causing an eye injury which prevented his victim from seeing properly for two months.

But Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the 17-year-old had made a full recovery and his assailant, Ian Williamson, of Union Street, Inverness was ordered to pay him £400 in compensation.

Williamson, who admitted assault to injury, was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Robert Frazer that the younger boy was on his bike when confronted by the accused whose punch caused a black eye and bleeding nose.

The incident happened in Balloan Road, Inverness on April 19, 2022.

Defence solicitor Natalie Paterson said: "There had been some to-ing and fro-ing between them with insults being thrown because the other boy had been messaging my client's partner.

"This was an isolated incident and all parties have moved on."

Sheriff Frazer told Williamson: "You should not have reacted in this way."
