A city centre street will be closed to traffic on Friday while emergency repairs to a burst main are carried out on the riverside.

Water has been bubbling up onto the street in Douglas Row since Wednesday, with water clearly visible in the road and residents on some homes forced to deploy sandbags to try to keep it from entering their properties.

The burst's location close to the River Ness flood defence wall has also sparked concerns that the leak could undermine or damage its foundations or those of the road.7.

However, repairs now look set to be carried out to fix the leak, Scottish Water has confirmed.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We were made aware of a leak coming from a water main on Douglas Row yesterday (January 24). A team of engineers has now assessed the issue and repairs are due to be carried out tomorrow (Friday).

“To allow work to be carried out safely, Douglas Row will be closed to traffic for the duration of the work but pedestrian access will remain in place.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while these essential repairs are carried out.”
