AN Inverness woman panicked when police knocked at her door in the early hours after she slightly damaged her car.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Laura McLean (33), of Woodgrove Court, had a glass of wine before bed after leaving her vehicle with a damaged wheel on the West Link Road on August 21, 2021.

But when police traced her to her home at 4.45am and spoke to her, she said she did not know who was driving her car at the time. Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said that McLean was taken to Burnett Road police station where she refused to give a breath sample, saying she was scared of failing. McLean admitted failing to provide police with information and failing to comply with the breath test procedure.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said his client had failed an initial breath test due to the wine and panicked. She was fined £470 and banned from driving for six months.
