INVERNESS SHERIFF COURT: Serial shoplifter admits multiple thefts

A serial shoplifter has admitted multiple thefts that took place across Inverness including in the McDonald's restaurant in the Highland capital's city centre.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Scott Smith (20) broke into the fast food diner on the High Street on July 9 last year and attempted to break into a safe using a hammer.

He also stole a crate of juice during the raid.

Three days earlier, the court was told, he broke into the Wee Highland deli shop on Academy Street and stole alcohol and collectable coins worth around £15.

Smith, of Polvanie View, also admitted stealing money from Mr Rice takeaway on Telford Street on July 21 stealing cigarettes, tobacco, lighters, earphones and stamps from a Spar shop on Barn Church Road on September 5, stealing various items from Dobbies at Inshes on October 19 and damaging an ATM at Scotmid at Smithon Park on September 22, all last year.

Sentence was deferred for the preparation of background reports until December 6.
