INVERNESS SHERIFF COURT: Police called after fake gun and real knife shown off in city centre pub

Pub staff phoned the police after mid-morning customer started showing off an imitation firearm and a knife Inverness Sheriff Court has been told.

The court was told Gerard Allan (58) caused alarm after taking the two items out of his backpack in the Nip Inn on the city's Grant Street on August 3 last year.

Allan, of Bailey Place, had come into the pub around 11am and bought a drink before socialising with other patrons.

It was then he unveiled the contents of his rucksack.

Fiscal depute David Morton said: "The bar staff were somewhat alarmed and contacted the police."

Sentencing Allan, Sheriff Robert Frazer said: "You have pled guilty to two serious offences."

However the sheriff deferred sentence for four months to see if Allan could remain out of further trouble.
