Sentence has been deferred on an Inverness man who turned up at his ex-wife’s house unannounced in a drunken attempt to see his children.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard George Thomson (56) had not seen his children in six years before he appeared in the back garden of his ex’s home in the city’s Murray Road, while she was in the kitchen on July 24.

Fiscal depute Shamela Ghafar said: “At around 4.45pm the witness was within her kitchen washing dishes when a figure appeared at the window. The accused began to bang on the back door.”

The court was told the woman immediately recognised the man as her ex-husband and ran upstairs to phone 999.

While she waited for the police Thomson tried to open the back door and then repeatedly banged on the front door as well as trying to open it.

Miss Ghafar said: “At 16.58 the accused was found by officers in the rear garden heavily intoxicated.”

Thomson, who represented himself in court, admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner.

Asked by Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison to explain his actions he said: “I haven’t seen my kids in six years and I got drunk and went to the door.”

Sentence was deferred until September 8 for the preparation of background reports and Thomson, of Loch Flemington Road, was bailed with the condition he does not approach his ex’s house.
