A group of friends bought ecstasy at a music festival and decided to take the remainder home after failing to consume all of it, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

But the court heard that police were contacted by text with information that 27 year old Nikki Cartwright of Broomhill Court, Inshes, Inverness and her pals were consuming the drugs on the 11.41am ScotRail train from Stirling to Inverness on April 21, 2019.

A description of the group was given and other details to the police control room.

Officers then met the train upon its arrival and Cartwright and her partner were detained for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act, the court heard.

In Cartwright's suitcase was found a silver foil bag containing 57.3 grams of MDMA - commonly known as ecstasy - at 77 per cent purity with a value of around £2,000, the court heard.

Cartwright pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs with intent to supply and sentence had been deferred for a background report.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client had bought the drugs for consumption by all of them and they ended up in Cartwright's case on the way home.

The solicitor said: "There was no financial motivation here. They had purchased the drugs with the intention of using them.

"She now has a young child, is well thought of at her work and I don't think we will see her back here again."

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald ordered Cartwright to remain under 18 months of social work supervision.

She told her: "This was a class A drug and you had a significant amount. People can be sent to jail for this. But I am assured by Mr Dickson that this will never happen again and I am prepared to accept that."
