A man has been warned he could face jail after admitting driving while under the influence of drugs.

Calum Alsop (32) must return to court next month to discover his fate when background reports should be available.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he was pulled over on the A9 between Kingussie and Aviemore on January 5 last year.

He was noticed by a fellow motorist swerving across the road around 10pm.

The police were called and when stopped Alsop, of Glenfield Park, Ullapool, appeared intoxicated.

He was taken to Burnett Road police station in Inverness where a drugs test was carried out.

Alsop, who appeared from custody on warrant, was found to have 376micrograms of cocaine metabolite Benzolecgonine per litre of blood.

The agreed legal threshold is 50micrograms.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood deferred sentence until December 8 for background reports to be carried out.

Noting his previous record of offences, the sheriff added: “We'll see if that gives us any alternatives to a custodial sentence.”

Alsop was disqualified from driving in the interim.
