The labourer was originally stopped by police for driving at excessive speed on the Black Isle.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that officers who pulled Daniel Stewart (24) over in Muir of Ord could then smell alcohol.

A subsequent breath test showed he was almost three times the legal drink-drive limit.

His reading on July 15, 2020 was 59mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.

Stewart was arrested and taken to Burnett Road police station in Inverness where he took exception to the way he was being dealt with by an officer and struggled with him, the court heard.

Stewart, of Gilbert Court, Inverness, admitted careless driving, resisting arrest and driving with excess alcohol.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said: “He foolishly took the car when he should not. Then there was a brief resist.”

Stewart was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £840.
