A PROMISING Fort William boxer has been jailed for nine months for the possession of an offensive weapon in public.

Igor Sliwinski (25) was found by police in Inverness city centre in a distressed state.

But when officers searched the two bags he was carrying, one contained a saw.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard previously he could not offer a reasonable explanation for having it and was arrested and charged. Sliwinski, of Angus Maciver Way, had admitted the offence on May 4 but sentence had been deferred for the preparation of reports.

Defence solicitor David Patterson had told Sheriff Sara Matheson at a previous hearing that the incident was “drug induced”.

He appeared for sentencing from custody via video link.

His sentence was backdated to May 5 when he was first remanded.
