Police stopped a car being driven in an erratic manner and arrested the driver who had 10 times the safe amount of cocaine in his system.

John Ross of Muir of Balnagowan, Fort George, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted drug-driving and possession of a small amount of the Class A narcotic. The offences took place in Carsegate Road, Inverness on December 30, 2021. His reading was 597mcgs of a cocaine metabolite when the limit is 50mcgs.

Defence solicitor Maureen Duffy said: “He regrets his actions as at the time he had a problem with illicit substances. He has not driven since and he has also been of good behaviour.”

Ross was fined £420 and banned from driving for three years as he had a previous drink-drive conviction.
