Motorists reported a suspected drink-driver who was swerving all over the road on the A9 near North Kessock to police.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that officers caught up with 55-year-old Patrick Robinson, of Highfield Avenue, Inverness in the public toilets at a lay-by near the Kessock Bridge on July 30.

Fiscal depute Shamiela Ghafar said he told them that he had had only one drink. But a breath test revealed he was almost five times the legal limit.

His reading was 100mcgs of alcohol in his breath when the limit is 22mcgs.

Robinson admitted drink-driving and was fined £640. He was also banned from driving for a year.

However, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald certified him as suitable for the drink-drive rehabilitation scheme which he must fund himself.

If he is successful, he will earn a three-month discount from his driving disqualification.
