A SPECIAL service where families can remember lost babies and say goodbye will be held in Inverness next week.

It is among "Saying Goodbye"services run by the Mariposa Trust nationwide.

A spokeswoman said: “Sadly due to Covid we can only bring Scotland three services, but we are just so happy to be back.

“We know how hard it has been for families in your area who have lost a child during restrictions.

“Would you please help us to spread the word so that families touched by loss can come together?”

The Inverness service will be on Wednesday, at 7.30pm in St Andrews Cathedral, one of 15 being held across the UK for families, couples and individuals affected by the loss of a baby, whether during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.

The “Saying Goodbye” services were launched in 2012, by Zoe and Andy Clark-Coates, who suffered the loss of five babies. They saw that there was an extreme lack of support available to parents like them.

The Mariposa Trust provides support that is accessed by more than 50,000 people each week, and helps people affected by baby loss, pregnancy after baby loss, fertility, adoption and more.

Baby loss affects around one in four pregnancies each year in the UK, with nearly 700 babies lost each day.

When parents go through the devastating loss of a baby they often feel isolated and unable to process the overwhelming grief and trauma that the loss brings.

The services allow people to stand with others who have experienced the similar trauma of baby loss, and collectively acknowledge and remember each life lost.

The services are open to all and are uplifting and moving events filled with music, poems and acts of remembrance, that bring healing and solace to thousands.
