A POPULAR performing arts school in Inverness has added a brand new course to its offer.

From this year TFX Performing Arts Academy, a local independent school fostering young talent in the Highland capital, will run musical theatre sessions to prepare the students for the prestigious London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations.

The school, which has offered LAMDA acting classes and exams for more than 20 years, has enriched its portfolio by adding this new course which focuses on the skills needed for musical theatre and acting through song.

The course will be run by two new teachers, Alan Mackintosh and Claire Fisher, who worked together on the Legally Blonde The Musical production on show at Eden Court, with Ms Fisher as director and choreographer and Mr Mackintosh in the role of musical director.

TFX teacher Amy Crook said this was a great opportunity for the school.

“TFX has been so established in doing LAMDA for such a long time so we thought it was time to branch out and add this new class,” she said. “We always have great results with our LAMDA exams, the classes are run by Nick Fearne and he always gets 100 per cent pass rates so we thought it was time to add this class.

“It’s a really high-energy class, and it’s not just about singing a song, it’s about telling a story and incorporating all the skills that are needed to work in musical theatre.

“Claire and Alan are such a good team together, they are a nurturing and enthusiastic team, they bring the best out of everyone and they are such great people to work with.

“We are hoping to start doing the exams at the start of next year. The grades build up and it’s accessible for all ages, it can be accessed by everyone and then you can move on.

“When I did my LAMDA, it really helped a lot with my confidence, it really encourages solo working.”

Musical Theatre LAMDA classes are running at TFX on Wednesday afternoons from 4.30pm.

More information is available on TFX’s website.
