Inverness road to remain closed due to burst water main

Harbour Road will remain closed tomorrow morning (October 2) as a result of a burst water main.

The water main located near to the Millburn Road roundabout in Inverness caused customers in the IV1 and IV2 postcode areas to be without water early Saturday morning.

An updated Scottish Water statement said: "On investigation, our Operative located a burst main near to a level crossing making a repair more challenging, however they were able to carry out valve work to reduce the number of customers impacted at this time.

"Initially, some customers and businesses north-west of Longman Road experienced no water, low pressure or intermittent supply.

"Thorough planning was required before work could commence and we initiated conversations with Network Rail and Highland council to discuss how we effect a repair as quickly as possible whilst ensuring the safety of our teams.

"This has resulted in a short delay in completing the repair as an extensive length of main is needing to be replaced under the railway crossing. To enable us to do this we have sourced additional equipment, materials and additional resources deployed.

"A full-road closure remains in place until all repairs are complete and the area is fully reinstated. We expect the road to remain closed on Monday morning which may cause delays for commuters in the area and we ask all road-users to plan ahead when travelling.

"Once the repair is fully underway, there may be customers in the north-west of Longman Road and the Town Centre who may notice a drop in their water pressure. This is likely to remain intermittent until the repair is complete. If we begin to see a severe drop in water pressure in the area, we will look to deploy tankers which will aim to bring customers back into supply albeit at a lower pressure.

"We have a number of key customers within this part of the network and our customer care team will be reaching out to these customers to ensure they have the right support during this time.

"We will continue to update this message as we progress and we’d like to apologise to all customers affected by the water outage or diversions routes. Lastly, we’d like to reassure customers we are working as quickly as possible to complete all work.
