A ROAD in the Crown is to close to traffic for the best part of two days next week, while fibre-optic contractors carry out "remedial works".

Highland Council said that Union Road, Inverness will be closed between its junctions with Kingsmills Road and Midmills Road from 9.30am on Tuesday until 6pm on Wednesday.

"The closure is required to enable a contractor, working on behalf of ‘Cityfibre’, to carry out remedial works," said a council spokesman.

"Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency vehicles attending an emergency. Other vehicles requiring access may do so, but only at the discretion and by the instructions of the Contractor for the works.

"The closure will be implemented when appropriate signs and barriers are in place, and local residents will be notified by the contractor.

"Alternative routes will be available for all other vehicles."
