Organisers of the regular Kidical Mass bike rides in Inverness are calling on people to get active in a virtual event this weekend.

The fun family bike rides are usually held on the first Saturday of the month starting from Bellfield Park, but as the winter can be harder for little ones to be out for a long period of time, a virtual ride has been planned for February instead.

Everyone that is out riding, wheeling, scooting or walking this weekend is asked to join the virtual ride on Saturday and Sunday.

Organiser Sara Ramsey said “We know most families will be out for fresh air of some sort, but we can’t always rely on the weather at this time of year for an organised ride. Instead, we’d love you to log your activity on Strava, or via social media.”

Last year the grassroots group that campaigns for safer spaces and more routes for active travel in Inverness ran a similar event with 19 riders contributing 131 miles of activity.

Fellow organiser Bridie Barnett⁩ said: “You can add us as a club on Strava 'Kidical Mass' to record your ride or simply get in touch via the Kidical Mass website or social media. We’d love to see your photos too.”

The organisers hope the spring weather will have returned for the first in-person ride planned for March 4.

Rides will then run on the first Saturday of the month until the summer school holidays when the riders take a break.

All are welcome to join the rides which start at Bellfield Park at 1.30pm, as well as the games and activities at the finish.
