MOTORISED refuse vehicles replaced horse drawn carriages in Inverness in 1955.

"Horse-drawn refuse carts will disappear from the streets of Inverness in a few months' time when refuse collecting will be carried out exclusively by mechanical vehicles. Inverness Cleansing Committee, presided over by Bailie D. Urquhart, decided last night that a further motorised vehicle should be ordered to enable a more rapid collection of refuse in the town, particularly in the new housing areas."
