Demonstrators in Inverness calling for a ceasefire in war-torn Gaza will be joined by city MP Drew Hendry at a rally on Saturday.

For the third week running, the campaign group Highland - Palestine is holding a rally to "stand with the people of Palestine", calling for a ceasefire and the urgent provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

Saturday's event will take place outside Inverness Town House between noon and 1pm.

Israel has been bombing Gaza since the October 7 shock attacks by Hamas when 1400 people were killed and 239 people kidnapped as hostages

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says more than 8700 people, including children and women, have been killed since Israel's retaliatory bombing began.

Mr Hendry, SNP MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, said: "War is complex, and the conflict between Palestine and Israel is no exception. However, what is straightforward is the moral obligation we all have to demand a vital ceasefire."

More than 200 people have taken part in the two previous Inverness rallies which have included speeches by local doctors with experience of the situation in Gaza as well as local people with relatives who are directly affected.

Donations totalling £580 collected at the rallies have been shared between United Nations Relief and Work Agency and Medical Aid for Palestinians. More than £700 has been sent directly to people living under bombardment inside Gaza.
