SCHOOLGIRLS performed a touching tribute to people living with dementia in Inverness.

To honour Dementia Awareness Week kind-hearted pupils from Millburn Academy created a special silent play that tells a story about living with dementia and music’s power to conjure up memories.

The S3 pupils became Dementia Friends last year. Their performance moved the audience at the Inverness branch of Alzeimer Scotland.

Margaret West, who is living with dementia said: “It was lovely that the young people think of these things and do this for people. It has made my day. It makes you feel wanted – that you’re not alone.”

The girls met Walter Grant at their first session last year. He came along to watch them perform and said: “I am proud of them – they are all very good.”

Councillor Bet McAllister also went along to watch the performance. She plans to make enquiries about whether the show could be performed in front of Highland Council to further raise awareness.

She said: “The pupils from Millburn did themselves proud today.

“It was an excellent portrayal of someone living with dementia. The play on dance and music was well thought through. It was a happy and sad performance.”
