Island Fling at MacGregor’s Bar in Inverness will see a series of celebratory island “takeovers”.

It all starts at the Academy Street hostelry on November 1-3 with a spotlight being shone on all things Harris-related.

On a monthly basis after that the focus will switch to Skye, Orkney, Shetland, Lewis and Tiree.

Musician, broadcaster and bar owner Bruce MacGregor said: “I’ve been lucky enough to play with Blazin’ Fiddles in nearly every island in Scotland over the years. I just love the diversity that each one has.

“I’d actually been thinking of doing mini festivals at our sister venue, Bogbain Farm, for a number of years, but I just couldn’t get all the elements lined up.”

A discussion with Jamie Mcgowan from scented candle company Essence of Harris finally brought the idea to fruition.

“He’s an inspiring individual and when he mentioned his ideas for launching the new Harris Brewery range on the mainland, we were delighted to get involved,” Mr MacGregor said.

The weekend will focus on the launch of new brewery, Loomshed, and also welcome the Harris Distillery.

A team from Harris Gin will run masterclasses and food offerings will also complement the island’s heritage, along with a host of afternoon ceilidhs, sessions and performances with a distinctly Harris feel.

It’ll be a great chance for those living on the mainland to come and celebrate their heritage and also encourage locals to find out a bit more about these amazing islands,” Mr MacGregor said.
