More than 50 people took part in a protest in Inverness against plans to end the parliamentary session before the current EU leaving date
Part of a wave of protests across the country it was in objection to Prime Minister Boris Johnton's plan to suspend Parliament – a process known as proroguing – for five weeks, ahead of a Queen's Speech on October 14.
Critics say the move is designed to stop MPs preventing a no-deal Brexit.
Organiser of the Inverness protest, Lisa Simpson, said: "This was an event to draw attention to the fact that an unelected (except by a small number of Conservative Party members) Prime Minister and his unelected adviser, Dominic Cummings, have no mandate for shutting down our democracy to force their version of Brexit through.
"I had to do something to make our voices heard in the Highlands.
"I was delighted to see people from all walks of life and different political persuasions finding common ground and standing together.
"This prorogation transcends everything and is an affront to our democracy".
Protester Laura Hamlet said: "I’ve been following politics as closely as I can manage for the last few years but this latest news made me feel really anxious, I just felt I had to act.
