An Inverness woman was distraught after falling in the city centre and losing a ring that was a gift from her parents.

Council street cleaner Mike Bryce came on the scene and told Lindsay Bennion he and colleague Martin MacDougall would keep a look out for the ring, and took her mobile number.

The cleaning patrol did much better than that and later Lindsay got a message saying her ring had been found by the diligent pair.

She was so delighted she contacted Inverness Bid and gave them permission to share her story online.

Bid's admin and marketing manager Margaret Laws said: "It was a wonderful outcome this morning for Lindsay thanks to our amazing Street Cleaning team members Michael and Martin.

"These guys have a heart of gold and will do all they can to help in our community.

"They were determined and so helpful and made it their mission to find the ring. They are great guys and we are so lucky to have them."

A grateful Lindsay said on Bid's Facebook site: "I had the worse start to the day this morning, slipped in town and the last piece of jewellery I had that came from both my dad and mum slipped off my finger.

"I tried looking with no luck and you can imagine my distress.

"I saw Mike one of the street cleaners who I pass most mornings, and explained what happened and he said that he and his colleague Martin would keep an eye out.

"To be honest I didn't have much hope but went back with Chloe to see if we could find it. Then I noticed a missed called on my mobile from Mike saying they had found my ring!"

She added: "Can I just say to Inverness City Centre Bid and The Highland Council, your two employees just went out their way to go and look after I spoke to Mike.

"I can't put into words the appreciation that I have for them. They are an absolute credit to you both.

"I would love to get them something, as this was irreplaceable to me, but they refused."
