Police were the target of an Inverness man's vile abuse and threats twice within a week in the city.

Dayne Cairns' first offence was in Gilbert Street on March 11, when he was arrested.

In the street and en route to Burnett Road police station, Cairns, of Mackintosh Road, Inverness, shouted offensive remarks and made threats towards the police officers.

He also kicked the walls of the police van and banged his head off the walls.

A week later, on March 18, he repeated the tirade in Academy Street and on the way to the police station.

The 34-year-old admitted two charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and a breach of a bail curfew.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said: "He has a significant drug problem."

Sheriff Gary Aitken deferred sentence on Cairns until June 26 for an initial drug treatment and testing order assessment.

He remanded Cairns in custody meantime.
