An Inverness nurse has revealed she has been diagnosed with the coronavirus – and hopes by speaking out people will take the pandemic seriously.

Maree Sutherland has used social media to get her message across.

"I’m a staff nurse working in the NHS, in the Highlands, who has been tested this week and confirmed to have Covid-19," she said. "I’m writing this in the hope that people will start to take notice and stay at home and follow the government guidance to protect yourself, your families, others and the NHS.

"Just because we are in the Highlands, we like to think things won’t come here but the reality is, it is here and it’s horrible but we need to listen and all do our bit.

"I’ve had mild symptoms, it feels like the flu, I feel like I’ve been run over by a bus.

"I’m tired all the time. I’m exhausted. I’m worried about my family so all I can do is ask everyone to be more aware, and follow the guidance that has been set out by the government.

"I know it’s hard, but we need to protect each other. Together if we do our bit we can fight this horrid virus. Stay at home."
