An Inverness mum has made it her mission to save Halloween in these troubled times.

Suzy Reid’s Hilton home has been turned into a spooktacular scarefest – which will also help feed the hungry!

A garden display of ghosts, ghouls, pumpkins and skeletons in Druid Road is also a collection point for much-needed supplies for local food banks.

Self-confessed goth Suzy (35), said she took her inspiration from America before building her Halloween display. The initial aim was to keep her and her five kids entertained as Covid restrictions hit traditional Halloween fun.

“I wanted to do something to cheer everyone up and I have been collecting things to go into the garden,” she said.

“It seems like this year is going to be very different as children are not going to be able to go trick or treating, so this way they will be able to drive or walk past the house to enjoy the display.”

Suzy, who is a full-time carer for two of her children who have autism, added: “I have not been able to count the number of people who are coming to see the display as most of the time my attention is with the children.

“But I know people are enjoying it because not only are they leaving tins in a basket outside the house for the food bank, but there are lots of pictures on Facebook from people who have seen it.

“It has been great fun to do, and I am really glad people are enjoying it.”

However she got the shock of her life when she saw her electricity bill.

She said: “I was expecting the cost of the display to be quite high – but I looked at the meter and it had used a couple of pounds. The display is run by a little motor and it seems to be very efficient and it is worth it to see everyone enjoying the display.”

She is already thinking about doing a display at Christmas.

Tins and other items for Inverness food banks, including Helping Hands in the Highlands, can be left in a basket at the end of the garden.
