AN INVERNESS star chef will be hosting a world porridge making competition in October.

Sarah Rankin, a finalist in the 2022 edition of the BBC’s flagship cooking programme MasterChef, will be presenting the 30th edition of the World Porridge Championships in Carrbridge, also known as Golden Spurtle Awards.

Taking on social media, Mrs Rankin – who was among the judges in last year's edition of the championship – said: "I am thrilled to announce that I will be hosting the Golden Spurtle 30th World Porridge Championships in beautiful Carrbridge this October!

"A celebration of one of our national dishes and a great fun event! Bring your creativity to create a dish using oats that celebrates this humble ingredient and wow the judges."

Entries for the championship opened last month and would-be porridge maestros have until the summer solstice on Wednesday 21 June to submit their applications.

Porridge fanatics from around the world will gather again in the village on Saturday 7 October 2023 to watch the finals of this special 30th anniversary edition.

Judges for this year's competition will include UHI's Neil Mugg, KJ Gilmour of Kj's Bothy Bakery Grantown and Christina Conte of Christina's Cucina.

The competition is sponsored by Hamlyns Scottish Porridge Oats and Oatmeal.
