An Inverness man who took a vehicle without the owner's consent and without a valid driving licence has been banned from the roads for six months.

Gavin Hampton (24) had been with the driver of the vehicle and repeatedly asked to get a go behind the wheel, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

After reaching their destination Hampton, of the city's Gilbert Street, then took the vehicle without asking and drove it to Glen Affric where it was found by police down an embankment on December 11 last year.

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months and put him under supervision for a year.
