A 35-year-old Inverness man who brandished a metal pole at a house in the city's Raigmore housing estate has been ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid community work.

Sentence on Ryan Lathan, of Chattan Avenue, had been deferred for a background report after he admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner in Mackintosh Road on August 8 last year.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that police had been called just after midnight to the estate to attend to a group of men causing some concern in the area.

Fiscal depute Sharon Ralph said: "He was told to drop it by officers and at first didn't, but then he dropped the pole when he was asked again."
